Back To The 90’s

This fall, I am definitely taking a trip down memory lane….more specifically, the 1990’s. Fall 2016 fashion is reminiscent of my late grade school and high school years; and I find myself walking through stores thinking, “I used to wear this”.

However, these 90’s trends have resurrected with less of an alternative, grunge edge. They are sleek and more sophisticated…..perfect for who you are now.

Here are my top 5 favorite fall trends:

  1. Chokers – Anthropologie & Nordstrom

2.  Plaid – Abercrombie & GAP

Lilly Craze At Target

Lilly Pulitzer® released its limited time Target fashion/home decor collection today. In the past decade, Target has been introducing high-end designers; and Lilly Pulitzer® is now placing and pricing their merchandise for the masses….making an even bigger profit on their quality products.

And “limited” is completely true. The collection went on sale online at midnight causing the website to crash due to the masses ordering. The online merchandise sold out within a few hours.

I was at Target at 7:40am (Sunday Store Hours: 8:00am) and I was greeted with a long line of waiting women….two girls in front of me left their after prom party for a chance at Lilly! While waiting, Starbucks gave samples of their Creme Brûlée drink; and the Target manager passed out maps to locate the merchandise easily within the stores.

But that was before the crazy train came! When the stores opened at 8:00am, women in the front of the line took their carts and blocked other women from entering the store. I had to RUN around an obstacle course of 4 red carts just to pass through the front doors.

When I was finally in the store, I was racing other women to the FOUR racks of women’s clothing. Women were tearing clothes from the racks and filling carts without even looking at sizes……obvious that these items will be sold on eBay! Others grabbed handfuls of clothing and headed to the fitting rooms with others following behind to get any items that did not fit correctly. The racks were empty in five minutes! To quote a manger, “This was worse than Black Friday”.

Since, I had done previous research, I knew exactly what I wanted to purchase. I was able to locate the wanted clothing, grab my size and head directly to the girls’ department. However, others were not so lucky. A friend of mine was elbowed in the ribs; and another lady’s items were stolen from her hands. It was not the best show of humanity.

In the end, I was happy with what I was able to purchase for myself and Miss Modhousewife with a total bill of $100 and the quality is great. In the Lilly stores, I would not be able to purchase one dress for $100…so the savings are super!

Target managers also told me that they will not be getting more merchandise.

It was truly an adventure in shopping!

“I Only Wore It Once……”

This week, Mr. Modhousewife and I are celebrating “my”…I mean “our” 10th year of marriage. To honor this achievement, on my Facebook page, I will post a funny picture, realization or advice about weddings/marriage. However, today I want to discuss the wedding dress. Did you know that Queen Victoria set the style to wear white? Before her 1840 wedding to Prince Albert, brides typically wore any color of their choosing, especially red or black.

To me, the wedding dress is the most important piece of fashion any woman will wear. This dress gave you the brightest smile and possibly happy tears. You felt amazing and beautiful.  You associate this dress with one of the happiest days of your life. To this day, I still love my dress. I remember finding it in a bridal magazine; and knew right away it was “the one”. It was the first dress I tried on…..and fell in love. If I could redo that day, I would still keep the same groom (love you Nick) and dress (but this time a beach or Vegas wedding).

That’s why it’s sad to only wear it once. So maybe that should change! After watching a “Friends” episode (you know the one where Monica tries on Emma’s wedding dress. Then Rachel and Phoebe put on wedding dresses and their moods change from sad to happy instantly), I decided it would be fun to put on my wedding dress again with my besties and just chill.

These dresses were only worn once and needed to be removed from their confines to breathe and create new happy memories! (BTW…I have the best neighborhood friends!!!)

It’s true….your wedding dress is the best dress EVER! We felt like it was our wedding days again. We should probably do this more often since your dress was only worn once.

Mr. Modhousewife Makeover

That’s right….makeovers are not just for the ladies!

Last spring, Mr. Modhousewife saw a few pictures of himself and was not happy. Even though he worked out (weights/cardio) everyday, he was still unable to loose weight.

At the time, I had just lost 10 pounds using the MyFitnessPal app. I lowered my carb intake each day to now maintain my current weight. So, Mr. Modhouswife decided to use this application and lower his carbs and calories, plus add weights and long-distance running.

Ten months later, he has lost 35 lbs. and created a lifestyle of low carbs/calories plus exercise. His diet is about portion control since we eat exactly the same meals. And we have made this a family lifestyle too! (Bonus: He no longer snores at night!)

So, now that he lost all the weight, I took him shopping for some summer outfits. Here’s three classic looks for our Florida trip (Gap and Polo). He also had to buy a whole new work wardrobe, but it’s not as fun as casual wear.

Three pictures is about all Mr. Modhousewife’s modeling career could handle. I am very proud of him and he looks amazing!

Spring Fashion Challenge

I constantly review the Women’s Fashion board on Pinterest because it’s a great way to study new trends and classic styles. I also enjoy challenging myself to create a Pinterest outfit with items already in my closet or shopping for the same look at less cost.

Recently, I discovered a new virtual clothing company, Honey & Vine. This is the place to dress on trend and not brake the bank. The new arrivals for spring are fresh and flirty….I especially love the Sophia Maxi skirt!
